Compiled in Fall 2010 for a Digital Libraries class project in the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science.
Letters written from Patricia Tweedy to her parents Ruth and Hoyle Foust in Lexington, North Carolina while living with her husband and two small children in Limerick, Ireland.
Was good to talk w/ you yesterday. We had a nice quiet day. The children were pleased w/ santa's gifts. Phillip got a Tank Command game, a new basic Lego set, a little book + some candy. Jonathan got a little battery operated train and track, a little "green" motorbike (repica of a Suzuki), a Fisher Price dumptruck (will be a nice sand toy) + some candy. The Tweedy's had given us money to shop for them so I bought them new sweatshirts. After supper we went over to visit Eilish Keating + her 5 children. Ph had a gift for her son Brendan in his class at school. I think Eilish was pleased to see us. She has lived in Limerick 2 yrs - families are in Cord or Waterford so they were on their own for Xmas. People here have a lot of children + small cars so don't travel to grandparents for Xmas dinner. Rather they celebrate on their own + perhaps visit another day during the period.
TV offerings are excellent during this time. Last night we watched
Edw. got his 1st piece of Waterford Crystal (a jam jar) from 2 girls from BI who ride home w/ him. He was delighted + quite surprised. They all pamper him a lot! Laura bought me a lovely angel candle - we had kept her 2 children on Tues afternoon. Edw. started me (w/ one piece) an Aynsley china pattern - a little liquer jug. They're expensive but I hope to collect a few more before we leave. It's the same pattern as the little heart bowl I got you for Bet that time. Do you remember?
Edw has vacation through Jan 4 - we may do some visiting - some friends from BI + out of town to Clonmil to visit old friend from La Leche League - an Irish American girl who moved there in Aug. Am hoping I feel better. Don't feel like doing much + certainly wouldn't want to take this to any households w/ children.
So sorry that Jonathan was asleep when you phoned. He's quite delightful these days - loves his playgroup - any going out. He likes nursery rhymes, stories, + songs and is very affectionate + sensitive - a lovely child to be with! He is still amazed that Santa really brought him a
D. O'C thinkns Jonathan may need tubes in his ears + to have the adenoids removed. We assume he has dust allergy - will test him + Ph soon for allergies. I don't like having to keep him out of water but that's preferable to constant ear infections.
When is Sara's baby due? I assume there's time yet...
We have a new Italian restaurant in town - a nice alternative to eating at home. So many restaurants don't make it here. Hope it does!
Can't think of any moe news. Will write more later.
