Google Mapping
Over the past decade or more, I have been a frequent user of the Google Maps API, for a variety of purposes ranging from visual searches to interesting data visualizations to map-based trip-planning. Many organizations can benefit from 'mappifying' certain interactions: real estate agents displaying their listings, local businesses displaying a map to their establishment, B&Bs who want to showcase sites of interest in the local area, and so on. Below is a sampling of maps that have been created for a wide variety of purposes. Map of Speech Accents - This project was built using data provided by George Mason University's Speech Accent Archive. Each subject recorded the same paragraph of text containing a wide variety of English language sounds. The Map shows pins for each of those samples in the subjects' respective birth locations.
Settings in Space and Time - Visualizing Browning's Influence on Swinburne. An academic project for a professor in Library and Information Science at Indiana University.
College Search Map - Leveraging the Google Maps API to display map-based search results based on free IPEDS data about U.S Higher Education Institutions.
Pint Cup Map - Designed as an add-on feature along with a WordPress website for the Station Pub Run.
